  • Tips
  • X counts most styled letters as two characters, so a 280-character post holds about 140 styled letters. The count under each style uses X's own rules.
  • Your @handle only takes letters, numbers and underscores. Styled text works in your display name, bio and posts.
  • X search and screen readers do not read styled letters as the words they look like, so keep keywords in plain text.

Twitter fonts for posts, bio and display name, counted the way X counts

X has no font setting. The bold, italic and cursive text you see in posts and bios is made of look-alike Unicode characters, which is what this generator produces: type your text, pick one of the 19 styles, and paste it into X.

X counts characters differently from most apps. Plain Latin letters count as one, but most styled letters count as two, so a post that fits in plain text can be over 280 in bold. Choose Post, Bio or Display name above and each style shows its length under X's own counting: 280 for a post on a free account, 160 for a bio, 50 for a display name.

Use styled text for a word or a line, not a whole post. X search does not match styled letters to the words they look like, and screen readers can read them out letter by letter.

FAQ

How do I change the font on Twitter (X)?

Type your text into the generator, copy a style, and paste it into a post, your bio or your display name. X has no font option of its own, so styled text has to be pasted in.

Why is my styled post over 280 characters?

X counts most styled letters as two characters, while plain letters count as one. A post in bold can therefore use about twice as many characters. Select Post and the count under each style uses X's rules.

Can I use fancy fonts in my X username?

Not in the @handle, which only takes letters, numbers and underscores. You can use them in your display name (up to 50 characters), your bio and your posts.

Do Twitter fonts hurt reach or search?

They can make a post harder to find, because X search does not treat styled letters as the plain words they resemble. Keep your keywords in normal text and use styles for emphasis.

Is the Twitter font generator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no account, and nothing you type is uploaded.
